Taking Care of Foot Problems
Corns are round areas of hard, thickened skin, usually found on the top of or in between the toes and frequently found on the plantar surface of the foot. They are normally caused by shoes that rub against or put pressure on the toes.
Calluses are hard, thickened areas of skin which form on the bottom (sole) of the foot and also found on toes. A callus may have a hard, sometimes very painful area in the centre. Some people are more likely than others to develop calluses due to the shape of their feet.
Dry Skin The skin on your feet can sometimes become dry and cracked, particularly on the soles where the most pressure is put. In time, this can lead to chronic scaling and itching.
Infections Good hygiene is important to prevent infection. People with diabetes are prone to foot infections from poor blood circulation and a loss of feeling. As a result, a person can be unaware of the infection.
